Free C / C++ Compilers - there are more good free C / C++ compilers than most people realize. And they aren't lousy imitations of their commercial cousins. Many of them are renown compilers in their fields. Did you know that Borland and Microsoft also release free versions of their compilers (like Borland C++ and Visual C++)?
Free C / C++ Source Code, Libraries and Frameworks - save yourself from having to reinvent the wheel. Using existing libraries of code that perform the function you want allows you to concentrate on writing your main application.
Frequently Recommended C / C++ Books - if you want to learn C/C++ and want a good reference or tutorial, here are some of the well-known books (even "standard" texts) on C/C++. Note that these are real books (not online ones), so you either have to buy them or borrow them from somewhere.
